George Scott

Born in Newmarket on August 18, 1998, George Scott learned his trained as pupil-assistant at Paul Nicholls, Mark Tomkins and Michael Bell and, later, as assistant trainer to Lady Cecil, following the death of her husband, Sir Henry Cecil, in June 2013. Scott began training in his own right, at Saffron House Stables on Hamilton Road, Newmarket, in November 2015 and saddled his first winner, Cajoled, ridden by Pat Cosgrove, in a maiden fillies’ stakes race at Kempton on December 15, 2015.

After saddling just a single winner, albeit from just three runners, in 2015, Scott saddled 12, 22 and 19 winners in 2016, 2017, 2018 before, in October 2019, departing Saffron House Stables for Eve Lodge Stables, further along Hamilton Road. In the early years of his training career, his best horse was James Garfield, owned by the Gredley Family, whom he saddled to win the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury in 2017 and the Group 3 Greenham Stakes, also at Newbury, in 2018. Indeed, the Exceed And Excel colt took his chance in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket in 2018, finishing a respectable seventh of 14 behind Saxon Warrior.

At the time of writing, Scott is already enjoying his most successful season so far, numerically and financially, in 2026. Thus far, he has saddled 45 winners from 268 runners, at a strike rate of 17%, and amassed over £1.5 million in prize money. He recorded his first Group 1 winner, Caballa De Mar, in the Prix du Cadran at Longchamp in October 2025 and his second, Bay City Roller, in the Grosser Preis von Bayern at Munich the following month. He has since added three more, namely Caballo De Mar in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier, also at Longchamp, and the Prix du Cadran, again, in May and October 2026, respectively and, in between times, Bay City Roller in the Cornation Cup at Epsom in June 2026.
